Pale bark and beautiful leaves that will withstand harsh coastal winds…
Populus alba, but commonly called ‘White Poplar’, is a fast-growing plant that is wonderful for screening and hedging. Hardy, and with a good resistance to harsh winds, White Poplar grows well in exposed areas if cut back regularly. As such, it is a great hedging plant for less sheltered spaces such as coastal gardens, where it will tolerate salty winds. Aside from its robust nature, we really admire the characterful, five-lobed leaves that have white undersides, which compliment the pale coloured bark. If seen from a distance, this specimen looks like it’s been covered in snow!
